I found this damaged part and took it off

This was duct taped together and as I was parking by my house, I heard something other than the normal sewing machine noise my M20 was making, like something was brushing against the radiator fan.

Found this duct taped and since it was a pretty hot day today, the tape on it peeled off and started rubbing lightly on the fan. Any idea what it is? All I know is that it was covering the circled area:

Is this part necessary, or should I just leave it off and treat it like nothing?

The stickers make it go faster. :nice:

Its just a cosmetic cover for the distributor cap. You can run without it.

Whew! Thanks a lot! I got worried for a second there that it was something important. Well, now that I took notice of it, I might as well replace my cap and rotor!

it's not a cosmetic cover, it helps to reduce the electromagnetic interference with the am radio.

If it's rubbing, you can tie it back a bit. I had that issue too.

Have the same problem with one of the rad hoses. Just pulled it back with a zip tie.

It actually is a heat/protection shield.

I ordered one to fix mine for the same rubbing issue, the parts people actually sent me two. Want my extra one? 15 shipped?
