    Rebuild

I bent a rod on my m20 at 204k today. Should I source a good used engine, rebuild this one, or go with the m50/2 swap?

This question is asked on a regular basis, there is a lot of good information if you use the search function.

At least provide some criteria to what you want out of the car.

Looking for speed, smoother, easier to work on, reliability, and more modern. Money isn't that much of an issue most of the work will be done by me and my dad we own a mechanics shop

        Smells like a m5x swap....

I never did it because I got tired of sourcing parts and custom exhaust. Then there's the brake system to clear the intake manifold thing.

No. M5x is a waste of time compared to a decently rebuilt M20 (you will find that echoed frequently from guys who have been around a while). If you're swapping go with at least the s5x or an M30.

how much power are you after?
if you want something more modern that kind of rules out the m20.

m20 is ultra reliable if you do periodic maintenance (timing belt, good fluids, valve adjustments etc)

if you want a decent step up in performance out of the box you want an S50/S52. with an m50/52 you need mods to make leaps and bounds over the m20 and it still wont have the torque of the S50.

Agreed, unless you go aluminium block. ~25kg of front end weight reduction is no trivial thing.
