Schrick 284/272 on stock bottom end?

    Hey Guys,

I have a well maintained, good running m20b25 with about 200,000 kms on it. I'm looking to build a high compression stroker bottom end, but a couple years down the line when funds permit. Right now I'm just replacing the belt and water pump and running it as is with an exhaust, headers and a miller intake/WAR chip.

As this is going to be a track car, I figure I might as well upgrade the cam and springs when changing the timing belt. I just want to pick a cam that will give me some decent performance gains with the stock m20b25 now and also work well with the stroker later on.

Is the Schrick 284/272 a good choice?
I'm thinking a 272 might be too tame and a 288 might be overkill before the extra displacement and compression.

Any advice? I'm new to this

    Cheers,
    Eric

Typically there isn't enough piston to valve clearance to use a 284/272 on a stock bottom end. Even with a full thickness head, you're looking at 0.5 mm.

A cam that works on a high stroker will probably not be fun on a low comp 2.5, a cam that works on b25 low comp won't be worth running on a stroker high comp

it *can* work but you run the risk of piston/valve interference. If the head or block have been shaved at all, don't even bother. Even if they haven't, you'd have to measure closely to make sure they won't touch.

I'd wait until you build a stroker and then get the 288.
