    RHD lightweight flywheel

Any one has experience running one of these? Pros and cons compare to machine the OEM single mass flywheel?
Do we need to use e21 / euro 323 throw bearing if we use this on a E30 325i engine?
    Thanks!

pros would be less inertia so engine will accelerate quicker. the benefit will be felt most in lower gears since the gain is proportional to how fast the engine's revs change.

ive not used or experienced this particular FW but have experienced others that weren't as light.

I emailed that question last week to RHD and was told it used a standard b25 TOB. Shipping is about $50 and they don't take long in transit (say a week).

I did have a JBR aluminum flywheel in my M10 and it def revs quicker but also slows down sooner since you don't have the momentum. I plan to buy that one from RHD for the swap I'm about to do on my Cabrio

I have one. I like it. You get used to the feel pretty quick so drivability is no problem. My transmission is older so in neutral with clutch out you can hear a little rattle if youre listening for it. Its a sporty drive but I have other mods done so its hard to pinpoint which is giving me the most feel.

I had to use the 323i TOB only because my transmission is from the E engine set up (stock flywheel is dual mass) but as mentioned if you have the 325i you will use the standard TOB. And yes, shipping was quick considering it came from another country.

So a 5spd from an ETA mated to this flywheel in a b25 requires the 323 TOB ?

For me it did. The transmission housing is slightly longer (so I was told) because of the thicker dual mass flywheel. The 323 TOB is slightly longer than the 325i TOB. Using the single mass or RHD flywheel required the 323 to make up the difference. I also needed to buy new bolts for the flywheel since the dual mass ones were ~52mm and the single mass ones were ~28mm.

I think it's recommended to change flywheel bolts anyway. Were you able to order a clutch kit for,a 323 or did you just buy the parts separately ?

I bought a 325i kit from autohausaz for pretty cheap and then the 323 TOB from another site with another order I had going. Still all cheaper than buying everything separate. You may be able to buy a 323 kit, I don't think I ever looked.

Sounds about how I do my major parts shopping. Thanks again for pointing out the TOB spec. If I had found out the hard way I'd have invented some new swear phrases (I don't use mere swear words) !!

I have this flywheel and really like it.

Make sure to upgrade to a brass pivot point instead of the stock plastic

any downsides to the brass one besides slight price difference?

                        No.
My plastic one was broken and quite challenging to remove the Knub.

The brass part wears in nicely into the harder steel material.
You don't want 2 similar metals rubbing metal on metal.

                          trans jack coming in handy

pressure plate and clutch disc removed

made a custom tool to remove the flywheel bolts

i rented a tool from my local pepboys
slide hammer and pilot bearing puller
it was way to big to fit inside of the bearing
i found a rod to fit inside to keep the jaw from popping out and it worked

                          tool configuration

new flywheel ready to go on.

                          new pilot bearing installed
                          new flywheel going on.
                          locking tool in place

                          clutch disc installed
thanks to mike for letting me borrow the clutch alignment tool.(buttjuice)

                          pressure plate installed

                          plastic pivot pin was broken

bell housing cleaned up and brass pivot pin installed
old flywheel weight 20 lbs new flywheel 7 lbs.
                          winning

Do you have a PN for the 323 TOB you ordered ? I just ordered the flywheel and will get a standard b25 clutch kit but am thing to order the extra TOB just in case.
