    Help Identifying E30 ECU?

    Hey guys!

So im trying to upgrade my computer and do an MAF swap. I pulled out my ECU but there is no sticker on the case identifying it???

I was looking to buy a 173 with a WAR chip and the MAF off of a friend, but i just was make sure the ecu will be easily compatible.

Looks like someone removed the Bosch sticker for whatever reason. Does it have 3 rows of pins? If so, the 173 is compatible. Looks like you have a Motronic 1.3 already.

Yep, 173 ECU will work in any "i" car.

If the ECU is original, it's in a 1988 iX automatic sedan.

Looks like a refurb. A 173 chip will work in all the single PCB cases (Bosch Motronic 1.3). The earlier ECU's have dual PCB's and need to use a 153 chip - the eta ECU's are also a league of their own - except the 1988 325(e), aka super ETA which used a 173 variant.

VIN number is on the sticker. Last 7 shows what car it came from...

            http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select?vin=8135098

and a google search of the vin shows it sold on eBay...
