    M52 crank.....

Do you guys know if M52TUB28 crank is the same as M52B28? e 30 zone writeup says that TUB has bigger counterweights (in addition to the trigger wheel which can come off) but everywhere I search, it looks like they are the same.

    Anyone knows for sure

Some information I have compiled. The best way to identify the crank is by the casting number.

these "small cw 84 stroke" cranks appear to be sold in "euro" regions only

the second one below is same as the first in Skifree's image. on his the second one looks like its out of an e46

thank you gentlemen... speaking of 2.8L striker on b25 head...

Did anyone else notice that Mr. Everett in his E30 restoration bible says that 84mm struck will raise the standard b25 piston by .4mm hence thicker gasket needs to be used? For some reason I recall that general consensus was that m20b25 deck will need to be shaved .5mm with this setup (84mm crank, 130mm rods and b25 late pistons).

I noticed that, but don't know what he could be referring to. Increasing the stroke 9 mm and reducing the rod length 5 mm will leave the piston 0.5 mm lower at the top of the stroke.

If you are doing this for power and doing it right, then you are using forged pistons it won't matter. The discrepancy you are seeing from rod length choice.

to set it correctly you probably need slightly more than this to be removed, as 0.5mm off is nominal to maintain status quo of the factory setup. tighter clearance will work even better though.

not everyone has $1200 to spend on the best pistons so there isnt anything wrong with cast pistons despite it being not ideal, it is a decent compromise for the budget compromise.
