Hey everyone, I'm nearing completion on my parts collection to put a getrag 265 in my 1989 325ic, but I'm being held up by the driveshaft. Does anyone know what driveshaft I can use with this combo? I'm curious if the E30 M3 driveshaft will work, though I know from prior research that it wouldn't if I were swapping in an M30. Either way, I figured somebody on here would know what driveshaft I would need!

Are you thinking it’s a length issue?
I would think the m3 shaft would slot right in. You only changed the bellhousing to get it to fit the m20.
Are you using the m3 tranny mount? If so, it should be sitting in the exact same place as it would on the m3Originally posted by codyep3I hope to Christ you have looks going for you, because you sure as fuck don't have any intelligence.

Only the s14 engine is shorter that the m20. Not sure how much it changes the output shaft location, on the 265, though. When using a 260 on an m42, the 325i manual shaft is too short then the m42/240 shaft is too long....

Doesn't need to be "custom". I have shortened a few 2pc BMW prop shafts with good success. Just make sure you grind the welds off the 3-prong yoke, machine a lip to tuck it back into the sliced off front half, and align it back the way it came off. If you lay a shaft on the floor, you can see the way the yokes all line up (this is how I have mix-matching halves for years).
