    Coolant leak off the back of the block

    So I am doing an m20 swap into a '74 2002. I got the notice in and to run and I just finished the coolant lines, filled her up with fluid, and then it started leaking out the back of the motor. I can't quite tell where it is coming from ( does not seem to be the heater hose at the back of the block) but it is dripping slowly at the bottom of the block by the transmission (attached photo) Any ideas?

    Did you replace the rear main seal and what kind of bolts are those at the bottom?

      I did not replace the main seal before I installed it... And the bolts are replacement trans to engine bolts that I got from a auto website, don't remember which one at this point, but something like ecs or pelican

        Are you running lines to your heater core? Freeze plug on the rear of the head? Gasket for heater core hose adapter plate on rear of head? Loose hose clamp on heater hose that attaches to rear of head?

        *I don’t understand how a bad rear main seal would leak coolant? I thought those sealed the oil inside the engine?

            It does not seem like it is coming from the heater core adaptor plate on the back of the head or any of the heater core hoses. Maybe the freeze plug on the back of the head, but I'm not sure where that is and have been having trouble finding a clear photo of that. (Currently traveling, so I can't poke around right now) Anyone have an image of where the freeze plug is?

              Freeze plugs are on the block, if leaking at the one on the back, you'll have to drop the tranny to get to it.

                That pipe that's peaking out at the end is the coolant exit pipe for the head. Check around there.

                  Have you noticed any coolant leak anywhere on the engine previously, and was the engine or car raised at the front when you saw this drip?

                  I have had a very slight leak from thermostat housing for a while which took a while to locate.

                  When i jacked up the engine to replace the oil pan gasket i found a coolant drip around that location which freaked me out - thought i had broken the coolant exit pipe mentioned in above threads.

                  But turns out it was just the leak from the front making its way along the engine and gearbox while it was jacked up for the day.
