    What electric fan are you using?

    I was wondering what electric fan you guys are using to eliminate the oem fan. I have seen the dual flexalite fans and I know that zionsville racing offers one too. I think my fan clutch is shitting the bed, just weighing my options. Thanks

    I'm using a flexalite 16" S-blade 2010CFM fan (reversable, I'm running it as a pusher) - it's really quiet and doesn't draw a lot of power. however, if I did it again, I would have gotten the 2500CFM version instead. it draws another 4 amps, but the 2010cfm is just enough to keep my engine cool on hot days - the bigger fan would run a lot less often. a 16" fan is almost a perfect fit - I only had to trim a very small section off the bottom of the fan for it to fit between the radiator and core support.

    this is using all the stock wiring with the "low temp" fan switch from an E36 - the part # is on bavauto's website, just look for the 80/88c fan switch under the cooling section for the E30.

        Based on experience, I'd say that you don't want anything less than a 16" 2300cfm fan. And if you intend to use the A/C you may need more than that.

        You'll also need a 81-82C thermoswitch to control the fan.
        The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

          What fan whould you suggest for a car used for track days and autcrossing? I want something that will push enough air to deal with an all-day autocross, lots of runs in 100 degree heat. I'm trying to get max cooling for my daily/possibly for a project.

            I am getting rid of a/c. I got a daily driver that freezes my ass off.
            Is the thermo switch in the top left hand corner of the radiator? I have been doing some research and there is a temp probe/sensor that you can install right in the fins and relay it to run the fan. seems like a really easy setup.
            Nando: is S-blade the model of the fan? There are quite of few models available.

              even easier is to use the thermo switch I suggested since all the wiring and relays are already there..

              I'll have to go look it up again. the 2500cfm version is what I'd reccomend, but my car was just fine with 2010cfm on 95+ degree days.

                I have the 2010cfm version of this:



                you could probably get something cheaper, but I wanted quality, low noise and low power use. it's reversable (pusher or puller), fits perfectly in front of the radiator, and 2500cfm is more than enough for any E30. most guys just use the stock aux fan, but it's loud and draws a lot of amps - mine was failing so I replaced it with something much nicer.

                I also wired my thermo switch (part# 61 31 8 361 787 ) so it will only run the high speed mode, but if you bypass the resistor it doesn't matter.

                    Nice, I ordered the 16" 2500cfm fan from summit. I also got the lower thermoswitch from bav. I will most likely trim it up and run it as a pull fan like nando. Summit claims the fan is 4" thick, I think that would be a close fit. I think I am going to fully eliminate the a/c, including the condensor and the compressor. Thanks for all of your help!

                      I forgot about the A/C - I don't have it on my car. you only have to trim a small bit of the mounting area on the fan, on the bottom, for it to fit. using the mounts that go through the radiator, the mounting area on the bottom isn't needed anyway.

                        I was at work today and both the fan and the switch showed up on the same ups truck! I was stoked and got right to work. pulled the radiator. removed the fan, condensor, aux fan, compressor and belt. I went ahead and flushed my radiator with a flush kit and flushed the motor as well. I made some brackets and mounted the fan where the condensor was. reassembled and tested it out. at first I found out the #3 fuse was blown so the aux fan never worked to begin with, so oh well. New fuse and the car runs tits. guage stays right in the middle. If anyone is interested I can take some pics and post them up in the thread. Thanks for all of your help.

                        Oh yeah, I had a question about the a/c cooled fuel line. Since my a/c is no longer, I was wondering if I could just eliminate the cooler lines and run them to their respective places. My a/c hasn't worked in quite some time anyways. I was thinking that leaving all of that fuel in those lines is only heat saturating the fuel anyways.
