ErikWest German BMWs, they just don't make the same as they did before the wall fell.
^Case in point: Auto-Repair Technology. Everytime my car isn't starting or acting up I let it sit, sometimes for an hour, sometimes for days. But it eventually fixes itself.

1. States read manual before driving
2. When lamp is on drive under 50Kph. After car is parked turn off engine if light stays on or if light keeps coming back on bring it to dealer to have them check it.
3. Make sure not to park the car near any flammables because hot exhast gases could ignite them.

Alright, just an update on the thread. The light is related to the cat exhaust temp (required Jap law) and is a DME related fault. I hooked up to the GT1 today but there were no DME faults stored. This may be due to the fact that it is a Jap/ECE market vehicle and I am using a USA GT1.
Anyway, I will try some bootleg software to address the fault and try to clear it. If I can and it returns, I will then check the actual cat temp(specs anyone?) to see if there really is an issue or if its just the sensor($175 btw).
I usually am not one to "pull the bulb" but I may if it is sensor issue.
More to come....

I have the same thing on my Touring which is also from Japan. Car had bad misfire when I first got it and the overheat light would go off and on. Now after fixing misfire (new plugs, OEM wires, Bremi cap & rotor) along with new ICV car runs beautifully but light is on all the time.

If your oxygen sensor is older or malfunctioning, it could be causing the engine to run too rich - which is going to make the cat run at a higher temperature.
I had a similar circuit on a late 70's Fiat, except it said "SLOW DOWN".
Just food for thought.101
