91 325i needs new engine head

Hi everyone, I'm new and my knowledge is extremely limited. My vehicle stopped running about 3 weeks ago. Long story short, it started to shake and wouldnt start again after it was turned off. A friend opened up the engine head and there were broken pieces and cracks all over the place. Any ideas on what could've cause it? Will a head swap fix the problem and make the car run? Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

It looks like you have major damage to the parts of the head that hold down the intake rocker shaft.

You definitely need a new head, not sure what caused that kind of damage though.

Seems like the timing belt broke.

Yeah my guess is Pistons and valves touched due to failed timing belt or similar

Definitely piston to valve, likely timing belt, maybe failed stamped gear.
