    b34 or b35?

There really isn't a specified amount, you just kind of go in there and start beating away.

you shouldn't have to bang on the firewall with a b35. especially in pos 2.

I am using Funkmasta's mounts and the b35 fits in there snugly with the insulation still in.

I thought I read somewhere you have to bang the firewall to scoot it all the way back for the furthest position.... to clear the head....?

The b34 heads have a fitting on the back of the head that the b35 does not. This is why some people massage the firewall for clearance.

#11 is what hits the firewall. An m30b35 cylinder head does not have this.

You should not have to touch the firewall with a b35

I have a m30b35 with e30.de mounts in position 2 and didn't have to bang the firewall, it was close and with no insulation. But if I wanted to get into position 3 then I would have had to beat it a good amount.

So, you can switch to position 3 ?
                (using your existing " position 2 " e30.de mounts ) ?
Do they have 2 different mounting holes ?

Have you tried fitting it in there yet? I ended up cutting some of the sound insulation on the firewall, and had about a couple cm of clearance.

Everywhere, just go to town on it.

                          j/k :)

You should position the engine in and mark on the firewall were it needs some modification.
