I don't know. I would turbo the m10 if you legally can (can't do that here in CA) and you can easily get more hp and torque than the m30 too. No issues with wiring/tranny or additional weight of the m30 for the extra 100hp and 100ft of torque? With the m30 swap into the m10 318i you'll need to do something about the tranny too.... One of the reason I decided finally against the m30 or m50 swap into the 318i is the wiring/tranny/radiator differences and picked up an 89 325i roller for that.

the wiring scares me....but i read that the 240 trans works i read this

" I also used a M10 transmission and 320i E30 driveshaft," from gstuning ....it seems that he used the m10 trans? ....i PM'd to find out for sure.....any ideas on wiring at all?

If you could find a 88 535i you could use the harness/ fuse box, ecu, engine, and if it has a 5speed that too with a 325e driveshaft right? Thats the way I would do it. You can find 535's for cheap especially the broken slush boxes.

p.s the m10 tranny cant handlethe torque for long I heard. And the gears are kinda short. So you need a getrag 265.

i found an e28 535 for cheap from a good chum.....but im not sure what trans it had.....but i think the 240 may hold up because good and tight ran 400HP through it.....
and do you think the harness, fuse box, and ecu work?

im not sure.... but as far as the m10 tranny, I think it would be fine with a stronger clutch...? im sure someone knows for sure.

look what it states in that article....

"Note: Because the M30 appeared in the more luxurious 5, 6, and 7 series there is a very small percentage (I've heard about 10-15%) that came with manual transmissions attached to them. Using an M30 from an automatic and then slapping a 5 or 6 speed manual to it doesn't really pose a problem, but Ely (rs4pro3 on R3VLimited) had to do something about the Throttle Position Switch (TPS) on the side of the throttle body. The TPS tells the ECU when the throttle body is closed and when it is wide open and is found on both auto and manual cars, just in different forms. The automatic units have a different variable unit on the M30's that came with the Motronic 1.3 ECU. Instead of screwing around with the wiring Ely just used the E30 TPS unit from a manual car and it worked just fine. On the other side of this coin you may get an engine with an automatic ECU. Getting this to work with the E30 fuse box has proven very complicated for most so they opted to use their E30 manual wiring harness. It may take more time running wires around and cutting open the tubing to make things fit, but surprisingly none of the E30 wires needs to be cut or spliced. If you don't get manual engine with a manual M30 wiring harness, your best bet is to use the E30 manual wiring harness."

p.s so if you get the manual car you can use the harness? right....

it would seem it....the TPS from a manual mated with the manual harness and ECU ....i know a junk yard with a 535 manual ....now does the engine harness from this car connect to mine? ....or does this mean i have to rewire the entire fuse box :(

Ok to settle things a little bit.

What I made work is and work well btw.

                            E23 735i engine using e30.de pos3.
                            E30 318i gearbox
E30 320i driveshaft no mods direct fit
E30 320i gearshifting mechanism no mods direct fit
                            E30 3,73 LSD
E30 320i wiring loom, small harness opening to lengthen AFM wire. other wise nothing
                            E32 735i ECU Motronic 1.3 again.
E23 exhaust manifolds and custom exhaust from there.
SPEC Stage III clutch and pressure plate for BMW 218mm M10 size.
Stock clutch will NEVER work under full load.

Car hauled major ass, same ratios and speeds as with the M10 in there but with at least twice the power and twice the torque. Leaves WRX´s for dead very easy.

used a M10 gearbox twice for M30 swaps, one is this one.

Used by owner for fun and general driving. Has seen since built plenty of drifting and hard driving. With no damage to the gearbox.

240 box handles the torque fine. I wouldn´t use it for anything more then 300lbs torque though for long.

Nice. I just might do it! But mine will have a 75shot! Also I have a 84' 318i car.. so I use the 320i harness? There kinda impossible to find and the one imprted car I fund it was gone.... I did get the bumpers :) Isnt the 87 325e harness the same? Thanks.

p.s dont you mean 215mm clutch?
