One reason I love the M30 so much is every last one I have cracked open, from 130k to 230k has still had the original cross-hatching marks in the bores and have been perfectly in spec. The iron is so goddamn hard it doesn't seem to wear unless it's really abused!

This brings up an interesting question I have. What about a twin turbo M30?

Anyway, sick build. Can't wait to see what it's like.

This might not be 100% correct - but this is what I know.

The Bosch Motronic ECU "brain" that is in e30's was used in other cars as well. It has the ability to do knock sensing(that I know for a fact)- but BMW never used it. Why I don't know - I'd only guess that they didn't need to with low compression ratios.

            HTH?

It's been done. Talk to Sweeny @ TCD. Here's a teaser:

Nah. You go FI to leave twin cam cars sniffing exhaust. :p But seriously it is just easier to get big power via FI on the M30. That being said I'm planning on doing an N/A build on an M30 down the road. It won't be any kind of dyno queen but it should be a veritable laugh riot. See exhibit A.

                Exhibit A:

There are two interesting things about these photos. Figure out what they are and I'll give you a cookie.

The dual row chain and mechanical distributor almost scream M90, though the later M90s came with the single row chain. Pretty damn cool stuff!
