What does it usually run to mill the head and regrind all the valve seats and new valves? As well as press out and press in the new valve guides. Roughly. 500 bucks?

I just pulled my head and had it tested and machined.
I pulled the cams myself, so that saved about $100. (If you haven't done it, I highly recommend some research as they are hollow and break very easy.)
Pressure tested, two exhaust valves replaced @ $16 each, all others reground (I provided new seals) and machined all for $402.00 Only slightly more than half of what I paid for the entire car. :drink:sigpic -
Should be 400-500. I got two estimates from two machine shops when i f* my engine. With new valves it was 550. If I would provide parts it would be 400.
Anoter shop said 600 for everything. Si think 400-600 range would be it.

I don't think M42 cams are nearly as fragile as M52...
Around here, $600 would be a good deal.

$800....pnp head, 3 angle valve job, new valve seals and valve guides, complete clean and slight resurface..... not enough to significantly change CR.
