Maybe the 'tick' wasn't coming from your lifters..

ryan the tick was for sure from my lifters some of the spring on them were toast, not soaking them was the issue here

Does it still tick when you rotate it by hand?

The engine had ~400k you said? You think the cam lobes or the top of the valves could be worn down from having wasted lifters for so long?

Is your oil pressure relief valve stuck open? If it's the old style, there's a chance it is which would cause low pressure up top.

No not by hand the cams were fine to of the valves were fine I have thought for a long time the oil pressure valve was the issue

Oh you still have the original one??

It's like $20 for all the pieces of the new redesigned from a dealer. Get that in there ASAP. I bet that's it :)

Wow meant warm thats how it sounds drives fine shit drives great and pulls hard im removing the oil pan and replacing the valve and checking the oil pump if possible to check for anything that might be restricting oil flow

does the lightweight lifter actually do anything or just reduce wear? apparently you can go with these INA brand: 050109309

They weigh about 49 to 54 grams vs stock weight approx 65 grams

looking at this for the lemons m42 318 that should spend some time in the upper rpm range.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

Just less reciprocating mass. In the 24v engines, BMW went from 35 to 33mm for the same reason.
