broken cooling hose - how to fix / DIY?

    This hose broke..
The red circle shows the actual damage.
The yellow outline shows the hose that needs to be replaced.

I think the hose is #4 in the diagram below but i'm not sure because there is no direct number that shows up next to the part I circled. (The red zigzag line shows where the damage happened.)

Any DIY's I can reference to get to this hose? Also, If you can verify the part number of the hose I need, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks guys and gals in advance!

fwiw you can also plug the hose and the pipe temporarily if you need to drive the car. It wont damage the engine

Those suck. The pipe you need is in the engine block section...
Last I ordered one, they were the wrong dimension- you need to ovalize
the mounting hole a bit to get it to seat properly.

Taking the intake off makes it easier, but just pulling the alt is adequate...

its easy to replace. You can replace it by removing your air filter and boot. If you order one make sure you dont order the brand called uro!!!! They leak and dont sit properly

Anyone know the part number that I need to order?
Also, can anyone tell, from the lame picture that I posted above, if my "mess under the intake" is still there?

Make SURE that you buy the genuine BMW water pipe that costs a few dollars more. The 3rd party ones do not fit and are notorious for leaking/cracking.

              Genuine BMW Water Pipe "Connector" Call (310)626-8765. May Qualify For FREE SHIPPING. Parts# 11 53 1 714 738 11-53-1-714-738 11.53.1.714.738 11531714738. Z3, 318ti, 318is, 318i.

You probably also need to buy the rubber O-ring for it, 11-53-1-709-157.

Yes, the mess remains in the pic, but cannot see if there are heater plates.

As was said above, get the BMW water pipe not aftermarket.

Amusingly, a few years back, the BMW pipe was wrong, and some of the aftermarket
                  was right.

So just check what you get and make sure it fits right. If it doesn't, file the
                  bolt holes until it does.

                  Not too hard.

Thanks everyone for the comments on which parts I should get to fix this.

Also, can you guys chime in on what needs to be removed to get this part?
I know some of yall commented above but I need some specific paths to get to the part..

                    For example:
                    1. remove this
                    2. remove that
                    3. don't do this while removing that

                    TIA!!!

Basic rundown, assumes you are doing the mess deletion while you are there:

Remove airbox (unplug AFM); intake boot (remember the vac hose on reinstall); throttle body heater plates (just finangle them out, may be hard to remove); throttle body (set aside where airbox was, remember the small vac line to the FPR on reinstall, and how it's routed through the clip on the upper manifold); upper intake manifold (brackets fore and aft, 2 brackets below, IACV, brake booster hose (should just pull off even with stock hose clamp), then nuts on manifold); soft fuel lines at aft of bay (don't confuse which is which, label if necessary); lower intake manifold/fuel rail as one piece (set on valve cover); sensor plugs on head (one has one pin, the other two, so you cannot mix them up); all hoses from water pipe (gently push the electrical box out of the way), and unbolt water pipe.

Be sure to fully seat the new water pipe gasket, will generally click/pop in to place. Route any new hoses carefully to avoid pinching on manifold reinstall or excessive bend angles, and relocate IACV as desired (only real consideration is plug lead length). Replace soft fuel lines to rail. Use a new gasket on the TB or a small amount of RTV.

Reassemble, and see just how easy that really was.
