Hey guys I just want to make sure that the upper oil pan from the m44 is the same as the m42. I'm looking at a 1995 & 1997 318i from a junkyard to replace my cracked one. Thanks for any help!

They are NOT the same. The e36 pan is all one piece and has a rear sump.

As far as I know, no e36 pan will fit an e30 with an m42

An M40 oil pan would fit, but we didn't get the M40 in the US, so you won't likely find an M40 pan and no other M4X pan will fit, nor will the M10.Comment

Damn I was hoping the e36 pan would fit, this is proving near impossible to find an upper oil pan. There's a guy in the UK selling one on ebay for the m40, might have to go with that. I'll post a want ad here just in case. Thanks for the help!Comment
