So i came across a killer deal on a 4.10 lsd with 130k on it. I put it in today and forgot to check the oil. I went for a test drive and it seized up on me. i got towed home and found that there was NO oil in it. My question is, is it salvageable or did I ruin a good lsd?
Is my LSD still salvageable

out of curiousity, how far did you get? just so we know how studly the E30 rear diffs are when run without fluid. :pComment

I cleaned it up checked the seals and everything looked good but I forgot to put fluid in it before the test drive.. duh!!, Wow i feel like an idiot.
So i took the diff apart and it turns out that it's the input shaft that seized up, everything else looks undamaged. how hard would it be to change out the bearings, or can i put the LSD core in my open diff case.
BTW i went about four blocks and then did about 3 or 4 doughnuts and drove another two blocks before it locked up on me.Comment

I thought of doing that but the transmission covers look different (number 4). it has 6 bolts on the LSD case and only 4 on the open diff. does that matter or did you just swap the LSD core and the output flanges?

IMO that diff is a boat anchor now :-(
Out of curiosity is there any signs of harsh wear on the crown/pinion?///Monstrosity. (OO≡≡[][]≡≡OO)
