Serviceable U Joint Replacement

The front half of my driveshaft has a clip style serviceable u joint and it feels a bit notchy. I want to replace it. Would I be foolish to try and replace the u joint myself? I have never done a u joint before. The rear (non serviceable) u joint still feels good.

Beyond a hammer/sockets and a balljoint tool don't have any pressing tools. My other option is to order a u joint and bring it to a shop to install.

I wasn't able to find documentation of any e30 guys doing this.

Isn't the process similar for all cars?

A driveshaft manufacturer might used a non-BMW u-joint.

If it has clips, it's unlikely to have a BMW part number.

Fortunately, the major manufacturers list all their dimensions
and how they clip in, so if you measure carefully, you'll
be able to figure out what was used.

Me, I'd try doing it myself... just take it apart carefully,
and look to see if anything's shimmed, the clips are standard size,
etc, etc. There are lots of ways to 'customize' these to work,
and sometimes it's not quite obvious.

Yea I thought about a non bmw shaft likely doesn't use a bmw joint, I took a closer look and the rear u joint actually looks to have clips too...confirming mine is not OE. I am heavily leaning towards having a shop do it so I don't booger anything up. Thanks for the replies.
