Transmission Output Flange Socket (30 mm thin wall deep)

Found a good and cheap socket available in stores for this application. It is a GearWrench 30 mm deep 12 point socket. It does not say it is thin wall, but it is. The part number is 80826. It cost me around $10 at Advance Auto. I believe Sears sells this brand also, so it should not be too difficult to source.

I did a bit of research, did not find this information previously. My apologies if this is a repost, but figured it would be worth mentioning for anyone else attempting this job.

I broke 3 other sockets on a very stubborn nut (even w/ applying heat, etc.), so this socket appears to be a quality piece, and much cheaper then the other specialty sockets that are not too readily available (facom, snap-on, etc.).

Just got a quote of $50 for a non genuine 30mm thin deep wall socket from SirTools.
Not paying $50 for ONE socket.

I bought a GM oil sender socket is 1 1/16in ches about 30mm. Works great and bought it at pepboys for about 10 bucks

I just bought a Great Neck 6 point socket at Autozone and grinded it down. It only needs thinned out about 1mm in diameter. I've been using it for years. Just another option. Yours sounds better obviously, as it works right out of the box.

I don't believe it is impact rated but I used this exact socket with a good quality impact this past winter with no issues. Great socket for a job like this.

hmm interesting. I bought the exact socket mentioned, went to use trial fit and it was too thick.
