Cost on e30 5 speed swap?

i was wondering if i can get peoples insight on the cost of converting an e30 automatic to 5 speed. i see many nice e30's and get extremely sad when i see it's an auto. is it worth buying an e30 and converting it to manual or better off just looking for 5 speeds. I do not have the luxury of having a garage or a good friend who has an auto shop so i would need to have a shop do it all. I expect the Labor to be many hours which means lot's of money. anybody know the rough estimate cost on that labor? that's if i can scavenge out a good tranny somewhere for cheap. Any insight and words of advice will be much appreciated. Thanks

Too many variables to tell you with any real accuracy, but anywhere between $1 and $1,000,000 ought to cover it. So expect something in that range.

And, a less sarcastic answer would be between $250 and $2000, depending on location, for labor alone. Then it's parts cost, which can vary wildly depending on your resourcefulness, or how close you are to California and having to pay the cali tax.

if you have an lkq, you can get a complete trans/flywheel, pedals, master/slave, for less than 300.00. i have purchased a few takeouts this way.

Seen labour rates at a good shop hover around 800-900 in my area, and like everyone else said, parts are entirely up to you and how hard you look/how lucky you get.

I set out to do a budget swap, ended up refreshing bushings and bearings and adding a UUC short shifter and DSSR. Originally it should have been around 500-600, but it's costing me closer to $1000 in parts now.

On half off day at the jy a 5 speed swap cost me like 185 for EVERYTHING. Granted all used parts but you can do it cheap if you are resourceful like jake said.
