    error code 210 CAN-bus

    Hi

I'm trying to pass BAR inspection here in Calif so I need to eliminate Code 210 Can-bus

specs: 86 E30. 1994 M60, 5 spd. DME 540 automatic with manual chip from dudmd. Wiring harness is from 740 automatic. Swap has all emissions- new O2/new cats etc. over 1500 too much fun miles.
. Basically it is not seeing data from missing autotrans EGS unit – since I removed it and most of the auto trans wiring- roughly wiring is DME>EGS unit> data link connector.
The dudmd chip has supposedly eliminated the 210 code for some swaps but not working for me. Code was also present with DME from 740 autotrans

    Any input is appreciated Thanks

Good luck. I've had the can bus code since the first time I started my car 3 years/25k miles ago. Tried auto and manual harnesses, multiple DME's, stock and various aftermarket chips (including DUDMD), etc... Never once went away.

The manual non-ews (404 DME) 540i's must have something connected to the harness somewhere to prevent this code. I've yet to find anything in the schematics that looks relevant though. Non-EWS manual 540i's (404 vs 484) aren't very common either. It may very well be something in the DME itself...

easiest thing to do would be to have somebody delete the error code. that's really the only thing that will fix it.

        On an OBD-I 404?

you'd need to have a chip burned for it. maybe SSSquid can help?

otherwise the DME will always be looking for the EGS module.

groan--- thats what i figured. I might try to wire the EGS unit back in for sht/gigle wedaphone shows 4 0r 5 wires. Ive had the error code cleared but it is reoccurring I may have to print out schematics etc. and try to convince ref it is not affecting emissions run etc. .

I was going to chk and see if anything can be done to 404 DME but that isnt sounding too positive

The install has passed the visual inspection which was a major question mark. still have high HC at low speed test but working on that
            THANKS FOR THE REPLIES !

Thanks I will check on that I think that is what the dudmd chip jgood and I have tried was suppose to do

That's what I was trying to figure out, I was under the impression that the code was generated somewhere other then the chip itself. I have a Mark D manual-specific 404 chip, I still have the code. My DUDMD chip generated the code as well.

the code could be persistent because the instance of the error is stored in non-volatile memory. Since it's deleted from the chip, you probably can't clear it and the stored error remains. I've had similar issues on MSS54 with ghost codes that cannot be deleted.

Deleted from stk or aftermarket chip ? So possibly use stk chip and have DME exorcised ? can non volatile mem be modified in 404 DME ?

I wonder if simply plugging in an auto computer would clear the code? If so, a $30 junkyard trip for a harness/computer could get you through BAR, as long as it doesn't dick with the fuel injection and fail for other reasons...

I still have all the parts and now wiring schematics. Still researching about possible memory delete but think Ill try to wire it back in and see what happens.

                          Thanks for the replies

I have chips for both auto and manual 404 ECUs and can get you setup no problem!

will your chip delete 210 code ? 2 other chip vendors did not.
