    Dinan vs. JC chips

I put the car on the dyno last friday with the Dinan chip that has been in it. I pulled a 150.8. Switched to the JC chip and ran the car all week, including an auto-x last Sunday. Back onthe dyno yesterday morning and pulled a 147.7, 3hp less than with the Dinan.

I still have major A/F issues, running way to lean. I'm going to get that worked out and then do same day runs with both chips and get a head to head comparison.

      For the record.

With the Dinan chip in my car I couldnt tell any difference what so ever (besides increased redline)

Personally, I have never ever felt any difference in any "chip" installl unless there is forced induction involved.

Most manufacturers are pretty chicken about boost levels, for good reason.

Horsepower sells, so the manufacturers get all they can using far more advanced technology than any little company could ever dream of. A chip that ties together significant mods to the intake, exhaust and cam might make a 5% difference. If the A/F ratio is somewhere near stochiometric across the board, you aren't gonna get any more power no matter what.

I am glad to see another test showing that chips are a waste of time and money.

Also for the record. When I installed my custom programmed Active Autowerks chip it was NIGHT AND DAY. Very notable difference.

If you get that shit worked out, you should be on top of things. When I made my dyno run, my A/F was out of whack....and when the AFM was correctly put where it should, the car ran MUCH faster on the 1320.

Still, the Dinan was tuned for WOT, so the peak #'s might not be that different, but the partial throttle is very different between the chips, but I wouldn't be surprised when the dyno comes back right to see the JC a better chip overall.

how long did you give the ECU to recalibrate? when you first start it after swapping chips (and disconnecting the battery, rriiight!?), the ECU starts out with a default map and tunes from there.

peak numbers are quite worthless anyways, not to downplay the dyno time

Kris is right, 3whp is well within the margin of error, who knows what could have caused the difference. back to back plots would be much more accurate, IMHO

uhm, when you play with the ECU, it's a very good idea to disconnect the battery..

maybe you shouldn't be working on your own cars? ;)

                              el oh el.

If I were to thow on a chip on an eta, can I just expect a few hp? Could it change the rpms enough to make it use the engine a little more then an average eta would?
