    SO...I wana go turbo.

Well ive been looking around on some turbo info for my 318is...and well i found nothing.

I race autoX and drift, so it would be nice to have somthing to help me out on the low end. I dont want to push any crazy HP numbers, just somthing to have a little fun with. Any ideas or comments would be great.

Turbo's generally aren't known for their help on low end power.

For as much time, work and money it will take to make a turbo work properly on the high-comp M42, you could easily swap in a 24v 6 and be ahead of the game for a lot less.

thats not necesarrily true. at work we just did a turbo install on a e36 m44 (practiacally the same engine) and they customer bought a used mossleman turbo kit with some parts missing, long story short, the turbo is no installed, overboosting at 9psi (we want it to run 5) and the gains are pretty damn good, its a VERY VERY basic turbo, and it really helps. it wouldnt be a waste of time, but it would cost a decent amount.

M44's have knock sensors, which make a turbo a little less dangerous of a proposition, the E30 M42 motors do not.

true, but the m44 also is known for blowing headgaskets like there's no tomorrow, the m42 is a little better about that

I'd drop a turbo before I drop the car. :P

                        twin cam, boost, m42. mmmm

keep the boost down, and the charge cool and youll be good. stock compression will be good for around 7psi and under. not alot, but it should see you around ~ 200hp.

strip some weight out the iS and you will have a nasty lil car. if you can, delete the a/c, as it will negate some of the weight of the turbo system in the front end.

                        good luck! keep us posted.
