    Ignition Tuneup

I'm about to do an ignition tuneup on my iX.
Spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor.

I'll be using the Bosch W8LCR spark plugs, already ordered from Pelican Parts and they should be here soon.

Do I need to buy a brand new distributor cap and rotor or can I buy used off the forums if they are in good condition? Good or bad idea?

I can't imagine it being too involved.
I'll be using this as a DIY: http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/tech...ystem_Tune.htm

    Any other tech articles?

Use new parts and replace the plug wires also.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Beware--Bosch has discontinued the W8LCR spark plug (which of course was THE best for the E30) and Pelican is substituting the platinum plug (copper core w/yttrium). You'd be better off using the NGK ZGR5A which is a copper plug.

I've heard from numerous sources that they are the best choice for the E30 and that they are the OEM spark plugs.

                  they are ok, not great

I ran bosch for a long time. I went to 1 heatrange colder NGK, engine does run noticeably smoother. Plus they are cheaper and I can buy them OTC.

people usually reccomend the stock Bosch coppers because platinum/multiple tip plugs seem like an appealing upgrade. Except they are designed more for lower maintenance than performance, and also to lighten your wallet. And M20s tend to run like shit with them.

Good news--my tech buddy informed me that Bosch has replaced the former WR 8 plug with the 7909 WR 8 LC + "Super Plus" plug. Still a copper plug and since I put them in my wife's '88 325 they run great. He said he prefers these over the NGK plugs anyday.

the new copper/yttruim plugs are NOT platinum, and they accually run well

EDIT: oh just saw your post...

nando: I hav'nt tried any NGKs yet, tho. Bosch 7909's are OTC at my store, and only $2.19/ea
