Haha actually I don't know the exact price differences. I fill up with 92, because where I fill up (Chevron) they only have 92 or 94.~ Go Canucks Go! ~

so when is the M42 chip ready for sale ? I live in CA, so 91 octane only, sucks i cant' buy 93 since the review for the 93 was so much more exciting, seem like the 91 just made the car run a bit smoother. Is that basically what it did Rob, made the car run smoother? heheh Robs review for the 93 octane made the 91 octane chip sound weak.Comment

i wasnt asking him to make another chip. I was wondering what he thought about running the 93 octane chip with 92. I believe the octane ratings mean that number or higher...Originally posted by Robget a 91 octane chip. There's no reason for mark to make 3 chips, all within a point of each other....Comment

I can't say what will happen for sure, but it may ping. (or may not, each motor is different) Bear in mind that the motor already required 91 octane from the factory, whereas many other BMW's could run on 89, so going to 91 was 2 full numbers higher.. and those motors usually have lower compression than the M42.Originally posted by nickmp0weri wasnt asking him to make another chip. So I'd say you would have to try it out. Maybe I can send you one of each and you can see which works best for you.

Rob,Originally posted by Robon a related note, Mark was great to work with, quick to answer my questions and provide insight on what he was doing. Very knowledgable guy
Thanks for the feedback above for testing and reporting on the chips.

Hiro, why don't you buy the MarkD chip and when we have the dyno session we can compare it to my JC chip... If it actually does make a large difference I'll trade... So far I've used three aftermarket chips and they've all been pretty much the same.

Good rundown Rob, the chips sound good Mark. When the more aggressive ones are ready for production, please keep us informed. This chip does sound quite good.
Thanks,

Thinking about it. $200 is too much? I see you are in the UK. In Europe, chips cost much more than in North America. I went to the superchips UK site and saw that almosy all chips for na motors are the same price. Here's the listing for an E30 318i :Originally posted by demlotcrewHmm $200 is a bit steep IMHO, im interested to see the graphs Rob!

E30 318 +10 bhp £293.75
Using the conversion at www.xe.com,
Live mid-market rates as of 2004.12.04 18:02:58 GMT.
293.75 GBP = 570.987 USD
1 GBP = 1.94379 USD 1 USD = 0.514460 GBP
and
200.00 USD = 102.892 GBP
Why would you think that paying £102 for my chip is too much when a Superchip goes for £293.75 (installed price)
Maybe you need an eBay chip. :PURL: www.dsylva-tech.caComment

Supper chips are not very good, they claim 10% ha not with just a chip!
I would rather get a custome Remap done for £300 than buy one of their chips.
What do you think of the BMW GroupN chip? for the 318is?
You see the problem with the European market M42 engines is that one chip might work in my car then the next person has a Seimens ECU which wont idle properly with the custome chip. Its so hard to chip the M42 as so many rivesions were done by BMW that i would not buy one from Ebay.

I didn't think you can get a custon tuned chip there for £300, I expected it to be more.Originally posted by demlotcrewSupper chips are not very good, they claim 10% ha not with just a chip!

I don't know anything about the BMW Group N chip.
Yes there are many revisions here also, there are about 5 ecu's used for the E36 318i.
I'm quite sure that $200 is very reasonable for a chip that works.

Well BMw did a chip for the M42 its quite good has a higher RMP limit and a few tweaks here and there i use it in my car and i keep up with 325i easy.Originally posted by MarkDI didn't think you can get a custon tuned chip there for £300, I expected it to be more.Originally posted by demlotcrewSupper chips are not very good, they claim 10% ha not with just a chip!

I would be interested to see the results from this chip, if it produces good gains then to the right person its worth $200. Please accept my apology because this is my own opinion.
