Heat(fan) works when it wants to

So my fan works fine now, but ill turn car off, and go to use it the next day and it will not work on 1 2 3 or 4.

I know if the resistor is bad it usually wotks on only 4, but do they intermitantly work?

I saw a relay of some sort attached to heater box is that it maybe? I also checked fan switch and get a signal from all speeds..can that go bad or intermitantly go bad?

    any thoughts are appreciated.

Loose connection somewheres, or the blower motor going bad.

This last summer I was fiddling with my blower trying to get all speeds. I removed the resistor and saw there is a point set in there. It was corroded, so I took some 400 grit sandpaper and folded it in two and used it like a file between the points. Didn't take much, 4 or 5 times back and forth now all speeds work.

Might give it a try, cheap fix, just takes some time.

I'll second that. The resistor pack consists of solid state coils. Over time the contacts get corroded so just resurface them. It's also a good time to check the brushes on the motor itself.

Also try wiggling the 30a fuse while the blower switch is on and see if it kicks on. That was the problem on my car.

looks like ill be tearing into it this weekend and sand the resistor and where it plugs in to

Whats the best way to check the blower motor, worked last night and not this morning

and brushes on the blower motor?? is it like an alternator where they ware out

I'd have to dig up one I've got laying around, but if memory serves me right the brushes are not replaceable, or not easily, which ticked me off.

I just sanded my blower motor resistor connections down and it works great. Did a resistance test to make sure everything was intact and it's great. Put power on the 12v wire on the blower motor and it will move. If it moves, it's good. The blower motor is gravy to replace anyways.

i have a similar problem in my e28. sometimes the blower works, sometimes it don't. other times, without me even touching the blower control, it will go from off to full blast to off. what the hell makes it do that??
