Thinking of disconnecting the CEL light...

My e30 has had this stupid light on for a while. I've replaced the following parts within the past 5 months. The CEL has been consistantly on for the past month, whenever the car is running.

    Replaced parts (all new):
    -intake boot
    -plugs
    -wire set
    -fuel filter
    -air filter
    -oil filter
    -oil
    -cap
    -rotor

I've tried disconnecting the battery, then re-connecting it to see if I was able to reset the light...sadly this didnt' work.

Also, I do recall having some issues with the reference wire when replacing the wires...could the wire not being plugged in correctly be causing the problem I'm facing? All other guages and the oil service indicators all work correctly.

I've tried the stomp test, but when running regular fuel in the car with this DME, the stomp test doesn't work...only when I put the other DME with the performance chip in does the stomp test give me some readings.

Which DME is it that has the light on all the time. If it is a 153, that DME doesn't support the stomp test, but anything later will. If the problem DME is a 173 or later, the light being on all the time and the stomp test not working sounds like a bad DME.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

the light grounds to turn on, so if it wasn't hooked up it wouldn't turn on at all, unless you accidentally grounded the other end.

We really need to set up the software that runs this forum in such a way that you can't post in this section at all unless you specify what year/model/engine and such your car is.

"My E30" is kinda vague, y'know?

Sorry guys, I have an 88 325ism with the stock m20 setup.

For the DME I have 2 different 173's. One with the perf chip, one with the stock chip.

                thanks in advance

Have you tried swapping them to see if the light goes out?

Yeah, I'd leave everything closed. You don't want to go fucking up your good ECU also... Just run the chipped one and see if the light still comes on.
