How do I adjust the timing, or at least, check the timing in my 1989 325i? Is the timing electronically controlled? Did I just waste money on a timing gun? Someone fill me in here, I couldn't find anything in the search.
Adjusting timing?

how does the dme figure out cam position? I don't know if it reads crank position or has a speicific cam sensor. you could 'adjust' that sensor. aftermarket software is probably pretty max'd out timing wise, so it would be pointless - no pun intended.Comment

the toothed wheel is the harmonic balancer, it unbolts with either 8 or 6 bolts takes a little force to get it off, and sensing the #6 wire isnt required for the engine to runYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

He said the car will run without the impulse sensor on the #6 plug wire, which is 100% true.
Obviously the car will not run without the crank sensor.Comment
