    M50-->M52 status *DONE*

    So as some of you may know, I'm going from a non-vanos M50 to an OBD1 M52 with S52 cams. Bryson and I pulled the M50 today, and the M52 would be all built up if it wasn't for a $5 2" gasket for the oil pickup tube (had to special order it from the dealership). Also, UUC screwed up my underdrive pulley order, and I've possibly just been Jewed on an ecu buy.

    Unfortunantely, I couldn't find an aluminum block M52, so I bought an iron block one from a junk yard. When you have friends in the business, here's what $1620 will buy you:
    • Full M52 (manifolds, wiring harness, etc)
    • 3 vanos M50 wiring harnesses
    • driveshaft
    • M20 starter
    • vanos M50 intake manifold
    • MAF
    • correct oilpan with pickup

    Here's a few shots of where we're at:

    Awesome man. The swap should be fairly easy since you had an M50 in there already, aye?

    Clean up that engine bay :)

      Yep, swap is easy, the hard part will be the cam swap. Thats a post-degreaser-rinsed-off engine bay shot, I don't think I have the time or patience to paint it, so I'll live.

              Yep, 3.73.

              TJ, there's this small cleaned spot of cosmoline in the giant patch of it where Bryson had spent a good hour cleaning. After seeing how little he got cleaned off in such a long time, I decided to not even bother. I wish it would just got away on its own though, it looks shitty.

                Finally had a very productive day at the shop today, car is looking complete! Need some hoses, and to get the cams done, then the car will be flying down the road...so anxious.

                            anyone knows a good write-up on m50 swap? I've searched all over r3v and e30tech, but couldn't find one... is there any eng. mounts modification involved? just wondering.. list of parts that you need for the swap. I don't have an e30 right now, but looking into this swap, newer motor would never be a bad idea 8)

                              There is a whole forum on R3V dedicated to 24v swaps
