    Official TurboCabby project thread

Hey guys. I have had this thread going on another forum, decided to let you guys check it out. here it is:

    1987 Cabrio
    1993 Nissan SR20DET
    E36 5 lug swap
    E46 front brakes
interior restoration with slight customization (on hold)

Project goal: Aesthetically pleasing drop top cruiser with some go juice. Will be used for track days and autocross once I get real suspension for the front. Will not ever be a daily driver. I will run around 17 PSI on 92 octane, which is good for around 230 whp on this setup.

Here it is when I bought it on april 20seomthing:

Stripping interrior (that is my helpful roomate chris):

    interrior is half restored:

Half way through shadow-line, tucked bumpers, painted wheels...

    Engine donor: nissan 180sx

    No more M20

    Got rust?

    after sandblasting

Primer, etching paint, and rust paint...

Me cutting up some engine mounts.

Hybrid mount. I have pics of both, you get the idea though.

My buddy mike can't contain his smile at the sight of the SR20DET in the Cabrio

Using the BMW radiator, and a saab 9000 FMIC. Custom brackets of course.

Mmmmmmm. galvanized sheet metal. There is room for sponsor stickers on there. yeah, right.

T6061 aluminum radiator pipes. I beaded the ends if you were gonna ask. And feel free to talk sh** about the out of position welds I did here with my harbor frieght 110 welder. I am sure the immense dynamic loading the will see will snap them clean off.

Yeah, napa was out of that radiator pipe, so I made one.

Cheap stainless header, stock garett T25, internally wastegated.

How to #1, make funky custom intercooler hardpipe.

Here is how my car will stop. E46 330CI brakes

yeah the MC and booster were in the way of the manifold.

Who said the E21 booster was a nuts a bolts swap? the arm was 3" too long.

Here is the hotpipe, half done

I don't know where to buy a mitsu BOV flange, but I can make one cheaper.

    hotpipe mock installation.

Replica M5 wheels. 18x8 et35 front, 18x9 et 18 rear. I am gonna do some custom fender flares next summer most likely.

Custom brake hardlines, wilwood proportionaing valve, no ABS.

Custom clutch hardline (I know it looks wavy, I straightened a used BMW line, lol)

Well that is a huge post. Post comments and flame if desired. Bring on the "you traitor, nissan sucks" kinda stuff.

not too sure abot those custom welded pipes.

                  Cool idea, good luck.

17 psi and only 230whp? should it be more? JW

What are you ubsure about? I am curious.

Probably. I am not expecting much fron the T25 though, the blow a lot of heat beyong 15 psi. Some guys get as much as 260 at the wheels maxing the stock turbo out (17 psi is max on this engine for this exact turbo). Once I upgrade the turbo I will get more volumetric efficiency out of the thing, and I will be in it's ideal CFM output all the way to redline, I will be putting down like 300 at about 18 psi. I need more money for that though. like about 1200 or so. Injectors, MAF upgrade, ecu tune, turbo.

Someone asked about suspension. It is stock e36 325i until I can find out how to buy half of a coilover kit. And not the coilover adaptor, real ones. In the back I am stock e30 for struts and springs

Well right now there is no dash. I have a new dash, I am getting new seats tomorrow (black leather) and I oredered a new rear seat today (black vinyl). I got the rear seat for $170 shipped. I looked for like a month... I coudn't find anything...

So the interrior should be all done within like 8 days. I should have it off the jackstands in about 8 days as well. I had a delay on the diff because they sourced the wrong one and mixed some things up... I have returned 3 trailing arms now. I got a right rear (I kept it), two fronts (wtf, I ordered rears), and what looked like a panhard par (I have no clue). THe 4th attempt on the passenger side went pretty bad too. The salesman who took my order threw it away when he quit. So it shipped out yesterday.

I almost left it out. Here is my rear adjustable camber and toe, as well as my polyurethane subframe mounts. The adjustable stuff is a must if you car is going to be lowered a lot on the street. I plan on having mine dumped to a near rediculous height except for track days.

I am not beign negatively critical, but will this hold up? Does it flow well?

                          Just wondering

I know it will hold up. As far as flowing well, I am not sure. I have no crazy power goals. The most this project will see is like 300-350 whp. I am going to dremel out the roughness though.
