i would recomend some filler and sanding and grinding the welds smooth as the end result of that pipe is just nasty.

Actaully I am going to buy a tubing bender this winter most likely for truck stuff, and I will be caging up the cabrio eventually. And body mods will come next summer. I am planning on a swap to plastics and an M tech II, along with shaved mouldings, cyclops light, antenna, door locks, and anything else that interrupts the lines. I will proabably have more money than I know what to do with from an engineering internship. I might just pay someone to paint it and do all the prep work. I don't really enjoy that stuff.

About the intercooler piping- This was the "oh sh**, I cant make those bends with rubber right now" solution. I will make them out of real tubing when I have the $$ to buy those tight of bends from someone. lol. I know it looks like snott.

I go to Oregon tech (OIT). We have an internship program, they are all paid. The two people I talked to both made a lttiel over $20 an hour. The school is affiliated with like 300 companies on the west coast who all go through OIT and OSU for interships... it is pretty sweet.

Update- I got my seats. I drove my truck about 210 miles north to get them (north of seattle in evrett). My throwout bearing took a dump when I was 203 miles away from portland. I drove all the way home rev-matching gears since the clutch wouldn't disengage. I only had to stop 3 times, I just started it in gear to get going. I have hella low gears, it didn't hurt anything too bad. And I have sunday off. I should ahev the clutch done by 1pm or so. I will get some things done on the car too.

I haven't been posting because I thought my camera broke. I just had some batteries from dollar tree in it. they were new, but still dead...

I will have new batteries and new pics soon.

I mounted the front seats, finished the power steering lines, and hooked up oil and coolant to the turbo. I also got my silicone couplers, and broke an engine mount :? . I have a new one ordered (the rubber part). The car is off the front jackstands. I got the front end set up, toed to zero, and cut the springs. I don;t think I am going to be able to turn. My wheel/tire combo is massive. hmmm.

Still waiting on the freakin rear trialing arm. got it coming from a different company now though.

ummmm. yeah. I have stock E36 struts and springs, and It looked like a friggen rally car with the low profile tires and fender gap galore. So I cut the springs. I know it will blow the shocks out, I know it will ride on the bumpstops, I know it will drive like shit. I know it looks hella sick, and I know it is temporary. and now you know why I did it. I need to get half of a set of E36 coilovers in the near future as well.

Why don't you just buy a full set of e36 coilovers? I have a set of e36 OBX coilovers on my car. They fit with very little mods, and the perches are pretty good quality. I haven't had any trouble with them. The springs rates are soft, but coilover springs are widely available in different lengths and rates.

A 5 lug lug swap and then cutting your springs. Now that is some backwards engineering.

What part of the word temporary do you not understand?

If I had $800 in one hand and a cut-off grinder in the other, I would have set the grinder down and ordered coilovers. I don't have $800 laying around to spend on quality suspension parts. This car is not going to see any track time until it is proporly set up.

                      Trashcop-
I am not much of a fan of the cheap coilover "kits" available from the aftermarket. When I do the front suspension proporly, I am going to get the real thing, with propor shock body legnth and all. But this is just my opinion, and I am sure that the opinions of the "spring cutter" are not widely agreed with.

                      UPDATE-
I got my E46 330Ci front calipers, and my other trailing arm. I got the rear subframe asembled, and half way installed. IT should be off the jackstands tomorrow.

Track or not, cut springs are not safe. You want to do it right, yet to take 5 giant steps back.

So long as you get those parts without driving like a madman with cut springs...

I do commend your efforts, but I'm a purist so a Nissan engine is not my taste. But for the power you'll be making? Excellent. Looks great so far.

Wish I had the patience to do that sort of stuff...

if I had quick acess to that pic of the 2 propellors that said MAD PROPS!, I'd use it right now, but istead I'll just say "MAD PROPS!"

Thanks for all of the encouragement guys.

M42 technic-I figured the purists would be more forward and rude. I commend your understanding for my project.

Digital wave- I don't think we will be able to reach an agreement on this one. I'll admit I was wrong if there any problems other than what I am expecting (like ride quality and performance related I expect).

To everyone thinking and typing flame- I am absolutely not going to be "hitting the back roads" with the front end riding on cut springs. Not only is there the problem of increased weight transfer when bump stop contact occurs, but over harsh bumps the spring could actually fall off of the strut. This is because the springs are machined to fit uniquely in the pad, which is fit very nicely into a geometrically similar helix in the face of the perch. Once you cut the spring, your helix angles no longer coincide with one another, and you have the end of the spring on the perch instead of 3/4 of a coil on the perch. And the point of the spring can come over the lip on the perch... especially if you get air born. This is why they are not very safe, and why I will not be driving the car near any limits. Remember, I do have a daily driver.
