"Fan delete" kit availible for E30?

    hey guys,

I used to be a E36 owner but now im getting into E30s. there was a common mod among us E36 guys which was to do the fan delete mod where u would replaced thermostat, fan switch, and then remove the mechanical engine fan for improved throttle responce, revibility and overall behavior of motor. Do you E30 guys do anything like that?

What is stock E30 325is thermostat temp? anyone else done this?

    just curious.

Yebb it´s called a worn fan clutch..
    most have it.

If you have a electrical fan then you can stick with that if you don´t live in to hot of a climate.

there are few diffrent thermostat specs for M20´s

I seriously doubt the improvements would be worth the possibility of overheating.

Minimal gains, not worth it. I have tried it before on an 318iS and 325iS I put the fan back on after a while.

its not meant to make power, i do it for the engine feel. engine just "feels" so much better. honeslty theres no purpose for having fan, its just a big paper weight (or ticking time bomb about to explode) if you design the cooling system properly

I think it would defanitly help out taking out the mechanical fan and putting in an electrical one. Thats one of the things i plan on doing here soon

I'll let you know how it works out :o

it might be worth not having the fan in the way when you're trying to work on the motor though.

No I have a fan & hopefully none of the cooling system was damaged but I am going to remove the fan to free up space at least and grab that little bit of energy it uses.

Fedex shows the filter ready to be delivered tomorrow btw.

Yeah, I checked that earlier. When I looked it still showed the last scan somewhere in Cali, but on the 8th. Look forward to getting it.

Cooling fans are only needed when the car is sitting still. Air movement while the car is moving overpowers the fan and is all you need. Jordan was running without a fan for a long time in corvalis and he never had any problems. I think he put it back on though for in Texas. It's a bit warmer down there.

Also, removing the fan from the engine can add 5-10 HP easilly. At idle, there isn't much power stolen, but at higher RPM, the engine has to use a lot of power to turn the fan. Even with the fan clutch dissengaged.

this is true, hence the removal... however 5-10HP is an optimistic figure. 5 crank HP or about 3 wheel HP is the usual gains, the overall feel of the engine is totally different, feels so much more revhappy so its well worth it in my eyes.

Remove the stock fan and clutch and install an electric fan, done!
