This is a nightmare! Have you tried rotating the tranny flange with your hands?as you rotate it, do you notice any more of a difference when you apply pressure or not by pulling or allowing the transmission to rest in it's normal position? THis will somewhat aid in your theory that the bearing is causing it to get stuck.

Sad part, the bearing is BITCH to even break apart. When I did my clutch job, it was stuck in the shaft. I had to break the inner race apart and use a dremel to cut the outer casing

At this point, I'd pull the motor out and tackle it from there, you can brace yourself better and apply more pressure that way.

We're toying with the idea of finding someone with a cutting torch that can cut a big hole in the bottom of the bell housing so we can atleast get to the pressure plate bolts.

I have an extra Getrag 260 I was gonna sell but I may end up having to use it.

This is the price you pay when you try to be a cheap bastid.
Ok, you know that long bent-up paper clip looking spring that holds the release arm in place on the passengers side of the tranny? you can pop it out of place from outside, once you do that you should be able to move the release arm away.
How vital is that part (that thin stupid spring)? I think I remember noticing that mine had fallen out of the hole on the side out the tranny that its mounted in.

Pretty vital, your release arm could slide out of place.

          IT"S FUCKIN' OFF!! WHOOHOOO!

I cut an access hole in the bell housing..

then took each pressure plate bolt off. As soon as the last bolt came off the transmission dropped to the ground. Sure enough that damn pilot bearing was stuck on the end of the input shaft.

Even after an hour of prying I eventually had to cut through it will a diamond cuting wheel and my trusty dremel. What a BITCH!

Always sand any rust off your input shaft and lightly grease the nose!

A shop would have charged you the price of a new e30 for that.

                      What a shitty expireance.

                      Sold it.

I know I already called around... I was getting desperate and almost ready to give up on the car and cut my losses.

You guys think it would be safe to just patch the hole with QuickSilver metal putty and put it back on?

Yup either that, JB weld or whatever is appropriate.

Got the bell housing patched up, installed THE CORRECT clutch kit and put the transmission back in no problem.

Started putting the engine back togther and if weather permits we hope to crank it up this weekend with plenty of pictures.
