    fitting a Motometer cluster.

    Hello All,

has anyone ever installed a Motometer cluster into an e30 that has a VDO cluster?

The connectors are pretty much the same and plug in, i tried a Motormeter cluster earlier and everything worked fine except for the tacho/rev counter. Is there any info on this? please let me know. Cheers.

VDO/Motometer clusters are interchangeable. The only variance is from early model to late model. More here:

Are you using the proper coding plug in the new cluster for your engine?

You need to transfer the white coding plug over to the new cluster for the tach to work.

So after I've read this it makes it sound as the gears are all the same as well. I have an 88 motometer and the replacement gears are over $60 and vdo gears are cheap, I was always told that the gears have a different teeth count and they couldn't be interchanged.

I don't maybe i misunderstood the article but it would be appreciated if someone could clear that up for me.

gears are different from vdo and motormeter they are not interchangeable the clusters themselves are interchange from early to later model it makes no difference aside from the coding plug requiered from a 6 or 4 cyl.

do you have early model or late model?

check the coding plug to make sure it is in the right years.

I have an early model coding plug i could sell you pretty cheap if you want to try it or need it.
