Power Locks / Central Locking System

My power locks refuse to work on my car. Note, I own a 1988 325i convertible. Any suggestions or any places to look to diagnose the problem?

The first thing I would try is cleaning out the door jamb connectors with some contact cleaner and/or replacing corroded terminals. next check the fuses for the central locking unit. Try locking the car from the drivers door and then the trunk. All doors should lock, if one doesn't lock/unlock you could have a bad actuator. If nothing happens at all I would try another central locking unit.

You can correctly diagnose and repair all of your electrical problems by clicking this link.

If it's way over your head, that's okay. We can help. But you need to tell us exactly what's going on, where you're getting power, etc.

I checked my fuse for the central locking unit, put in a new one and no difference. The car does not lock the rest of the doors from the trunk and drivers side door, or any of the doors to be exact. Where would the actuator(s) be located and how much do replacements run for?

new actuator is $70-80, its located in door right about 6 inches below the keyhole.
Its a bitch to get to so I hope you have skinny arms. I had issues where I couldnt lock drivers/passeger door even by force. Just replaced my drivers actuator after checking everything else and that solved problem Have to replace my passengers also.

Also check your central lock mech.

Note. the actuator for a cabrio is DIFFERENT from a hardtop

try replacing the relay for the central locking that is located behind the driver side speaker panel.

              There's another relay???
              FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF... :hitler:

I already tried using a new central locking unit that I got from the jyard. Worked on my friends car but not mine. :/

When I took the panel apart again, I noticed some disconnected cables. Not sure where they plug into so I left them alone. That may or may not be the culprit to why my power locks won't work.
