clutch saftey switch

just got done my 5 speed swap. I thought i could just pull out the auto brake pedal and not remove the pedal box. Everything went real smooth until i discovered the auto pedal box doesn't have the tab welded on it for the clutch return spring. So I had to replace the whole thing. Anyway, my question has to do with the wiring of the clutch saftey switch. It doesn't appear there is a connector on the harness. I was wondering what the best way to tap into my auto harness to hook up the switch. I've been having a reoccuring dream that my girlfriend cranks over the car and crushes my front valance. Hopefully i can avoid that turning into a reality by hooking up the switch.

The clutch switch, as I recall, doesn't disable the starter. It is used to turn off the cruise control. There should be a two pin connector with a jumper tucked above the pedal box for the clutch switch.

definately doesnt disable starter!
on the 3 5sp e30's i've had, i have had a few "jumps" when forgetting its in gear..

they start in nuetral too, so yeah no switch.

This is good to know. I removed my cruise control and was going to ensure this clutch switch was wired up correctly. Now I think I will just remove it. Its a few grams of weight reduction !:hitler:

heck, even an earlier E36 will start with the clutch out...

any BMW basically after the E36 (and even most of those, if not all) has a clutch interlock switch.

I have driven stick all my life and all the cars require the clutch depressed before starting. My '88 325i can be started w/o depressing the clutch...scare the hell out of me until I read up on the topic.

I guess it must be different over here as I have never seen such a thing in my life. Cousins e46 did not have one, her current e60 doesnt have one, even old mans 08' land cruiser doesn`t have one.

uhm, yes they do, or they were all automatics.

I gaurantee they have clutch switches. EWS and the DME won't work without it.
