    Cheap Sub-Frame Fix?

Before you continue I know how anal some of you guys are about posting eBay links but this is strickly a question of mechanics plus it's not an auction rather an ebay store type listing.

I recently came across this as a much easier fix for the sub-frame bushings:

    Now discuss..

hmmm interesting..... cheap enough to try, but I don't think it will be as good as using urethane.

I bought some.. I'll write up a review and how to as soon as I get them put in. If anything it should tide me through till next spring. It's starting to get too cold for long term projects.

Looks like cut up pvc pipe. Make em yourself. Not a bad idea, I may do this with some new bushings, since mine are broken at this point.

You could but by the time you purchise the pipe, aquire the tools to cut it just right, and drive to get this stuff it's worth $24 shipped for someone else to do it for you.

A reputable Aftermarkt shop for BMW's recommended the same thing to me. It's a great idea, fills in the voids and stiffens the hell out of a worn rubber bushing.

Would PVC be strong enough? I asked the seller what his product is made of... hopefully he'll respond.

Thanks for starting this thread, RK.
Please take some measurements before installing and try to estimate the pipe diameter.

Thanks also to those who posted intelligent responses.

                      My thread just generated noise.

I guess it doesn't pay to post in the sub-forums.

Well, we know from Spoon's car that PVC (filled with Delrin) is strong enough to make excellent transmission mounts. :) So I think it will be just fine.

Yeah the seller told me they're plastic, meaning PVC.
