Sorry you only got the 5% discount...although 5 is better than none =).

I'm not buying the chip, or anything for that matter, since the reason I'm selling the A4 and jumping into a 1700$ E30 again is MONEY. The last thing I need is to be obsessed like I was with my last 1990 325i (all new bushing, arms, and mounts/Bilstein/H&R/Susp.Tech.sways/CAI/Dinan.chip/m30AFM/sound/euro.grilles/HID.fogs/ATE.discs/Pagid.pads/M50tuB25 swap NEARLY completed/etc...). Money pit for sure.
i think that there is no go around the first couple of things you mention in that list there. you are going to need new bushings, arms, mounts...possibly struts/shocks.

Yah, I don't know why I threw those in...because I replaced a lot of other shit too. It's a shitty list regardless.

People always hear the 200K and run like hell. Ive had my 318is for 60k miles now. Got it with 180K as my daily driver. No problems except a fuel pump replacement.

i have not had mine for that long, around 15k and two chassis. Runs great! Motors are strong and last, as well as make for a light sporty car that gets pretty good gas mileage. If you want to chip it but dont want to drop 200 bucks, look on ebay! i got a crack copy Jim C chip for 50 bucks or so, made a world of a difference for that little motor!

              oh yeah, working on 127k

well, after losing my $400 deposit, it's been decided by my family that this car is a bad decision. 200k E30's are a normal thing I tell them, but they say I'm stupid and I should buy a cavalier.

Who wants to drive a FWD car? I think I'm going to kill myself if I end up getting a Hyundai Accent.

a cavalier? fuck, I'd rather have a poorly maintained 84 318i auto than a bucket like that. haha.

a hyundai wouldn't be too bad for a cheap daily, at least you know it won't break on you all the time (like a chevy).

why is your family making a decision for you? are they paying for the car or something?

my parents went all out on me for buying a car thats nearly 15yrs old with 199k on it. i told em to shove their ideas up their asses, and so far i haven't heard on comment about it being "too old"

i think you should show them this bmw community that way they can see proof that these cars survive this long if not longer.

I wish I could, man. They're not paying for the car, they're just my only way of getting to Philidelphia (a 6 hour drive) to buy the car...so I'm SOL.

When I said I lost my $400 deposit, I was thinking worst-case-scenario. I was right. The Douchebag actually kept the whole deposit (that's $400 on a $1700 car...should I ask him to ship me 1/4 of the car...like the engine or something?)

The small things make me lose faith in humanity.

...real world indeed. What a place.

I always thought the idea of a deposit on a car was sort of to let the seller know that you actually had interest and money. A deposit on an apartment is held in case you fuck it up and don't pay, and refunded once the owner sees that you didn't put holes in the floor or use the kitchen as a bathroom. A deposit on anything else such as a semester at school is refundable if you drop in time, which indicates that the deposit is a safeguard for the schools loss of money by reserving you a spot which you drop out of and they can't refill. This guy will EASILY be able to sell the car at this price, and has lost next to nothing by waiting 3 days for me to decide I didn't want it. If he has lost anything, it certainly wasn't worth $400. it seems as though the deposit, in this case, should have been partially refunded. Just my thoughts...

Anyway, I've been nudged into probably buying an 88 Volvo 240TD: it has an automatic transmission 4 cylinder engine with RWD. I'm not a professional drifter, but I do it around every corner I safely can in the snow; is drifting made dangerous and uncontrolled with an automatic transmission? This may sound stupid, but I've only driven an auto once, and only for about a minute.

if ure in the snow, even a FWD automatic could drift with the right driver. i drifted the hell out of my rental SUV in the snow last year.

don what the heck are you thinking?

even if its a fucking pos, you can turn around and sell it for more. no sense in losing $400. just go get the thing and give the guy $1300. if the car sucks, sell it.
