    Sumbitch ICV tube

    So I've now replaced this little bitch for the third time in 18 months:



    There must be what, 6 or 7 other people who use this forum that still have a stock M20 engine in their E30. For those people, and the others who remember the days when they ran a M20 engine: did your ICV tube split like this a couple times a year? Is there another, better way to attach it? Hose clamp perhaps?
    Does someone make a better version of this that doesn't split right away?

    Can use silicone tubing like the kits on ebay

            I've seen those silicone tubing kits on ebay and other sites. That may be the route to take. Being the cheap-ass that I am, I wonder if I can buy just the one tube and not every tube under the hood.

            The mount seemed okay, no unusual rough edges that would start the tube to split. Is that what you mean?

                  How ever I secured mine with zipties. Cheaper and smaller than hose clamps.

                    I recently bought my car and the hose (definitely not recently replaced) seems fine. The surface has a few hairline cracks, but no hissing noises or splitting. I'm not gonna replace it until it becomes a problem.

                            The hose splits because of the angle it takes. A hose clamp, or even a zip tie, will prevent it from splitting.
                            The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

                              they didn't come with hose clamps, and they don't tend to split like that all the time. I think that is a band-aid, something else is the root cause.

                              I asked about the support that holds the airbox to the car, the one that the cruise control bolts to. if it's broken, missing, or you have an aftermarket intake with no support, then the ICV and intake boot end up holding up your air filter/AFM, which would make the tube split (and even the boot will begin to tear).

                              also what about motor mounts? if they are old/broken, the engine will move a lot more. the airbox is fixed to the car, and all the movement is taken up by the intake boot and that rubber tube.

                              actually that makes me think that's why they went with the T style ICV for the latest builds, the intake boot is a little more flexible, maybe it takes some strain off the ICV tube. But it still shouldn't fail that easily, especially if they are new tubes.
