    Fuel pump cutting out.

So I replaced my 25 year old oem fuel pump that was going out with a walbro retrofit 255lph. Car starts and runs fine but when I take a corner like freeway bowl turn it just shuts off completely and comes back on when I come out of the corner. Is this a short somewhere?

It sounds like a starvation issue, does it happen in both left and right turns? How much fuel do you have in the tank?

I had over half a tank, and it happens both right and left.

I should note that it only happens when taken at speed, 45-50+

Does it happen with a full tank, as proved by fuel nozzle cutoff?
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

After going from full to about 3/4 of a tank its done it. Its only done it about 4 times.

If the problem isn't present when the tank is full but does below a real 3/4 level (as confirmed by how many gallons to fill to nozzle cutoff), I'd suspect a problem with the siphon in the tank. That could be because the siphon is plugged with rust or because your pump replacement isn't good enough and the return fuel flow is insufficient.

Ill check into it, I also have a new fuel filter. It may be my paranoia but it seems as if the pump is getting louder.

Did some more testing, it happens only when going around a long sweeping corner at speed. Doesnt matter what the fuel level is at, it cuts out completely. Like it shuts off and then comes back on.

If it happens on a sweeping turn with a completely full tank, starvation of the pump seems highly unlikely. Something else is the cause.

One thing to check is the fusible link that the fuel injection system runs from. Assuming that your battery is in the trunk, you will see the giant black wire coming off of the positive terminal, and a smaller black wire running parallel to it. About 18" from the battery is where the fusible link is, under a plastic cover and some shrink tubing. You'll have to cut that all away to inspect it, but it might be worth doing (just wrap it with quality electrical tape when done.

A LOT of guys have had the wire corrode there and it will break, making sporadic contact. It took me 2 years and replacement of every fuel component to figure out that it was that stupid thing. Replacement requires you to cut out a good one at a wrecker and to use some heavy gauge crimpable splices.

Did this ONLY start happening after you replaced the pump?

Yes, which why I believe its the pump. However Im going to look into what you mentioned.

In that case, it is probably just the pump.

if you have your old pump, try putting it back in.

I threw it away, I was just about dead. Time for a new fuel pump!
