3.5 rev limit in a 318is?!?!?!?

the grime builds up on the walls over time, and doesn't open as smoothly as it used to. same thing happens to the ICV

ok I swaped the stock chip back in and....NO LUCK :o

I am maybe thinking clogged up injectors? Bad spark plugs, gonna check tommorro? Bad fuel pump? This is really odd. It fells almost like you are hitting a rev limiter but not as smooth. when it hits the "new" rev limit, lets say 2.5k...then it bounces back to 2ish then back up and down till you let off the gas. I need to check the AFM tommorro also.

Anyone got any ideas or can rule something out for me?

AFM!!! had the same problem with an M20. would rev in neutrtal. but with a load, wouldnt do crap.

no check engine light is on...

I cleaned the AFM...maybe I need a new one?

While checking the spark plugs I found a problem...there was oil...LOTS of oil in the 2nd spark plug from the front of the car?!?! now it may be like that b/c there was a screw missing on #2. #2 is the only one where the place where the spark plug goes in is wider and is supposed to have a screw I assume. Its oval instead of round like the others. I wish I had a camera at home...I may need to find one. The spark plugs were black w/ white tips...I forgot what that means. I need to look for the chart the shows spark plug wear. I am changing my vacumm hoses and painting the covers while I have them off.

I decided to polish the VC and intake manifold instead...its taking a LONG time but it looks really nice. BTW the parts department at the stealership is closed sat's right?

yeah I'm home in greensboro...is there a dealership in Hickory? I need an adjustor screw thing for my headlights...I got smileys and one of them is too rusted to adjust...the gboro dealership is out and can't get them till tues when I will be back in boone

BTW what spark plugs are best for the m42...I like NGK's if thats possible.

Yup there's one on Lenoir-Rhyne Blvd. here in town. I went to school in G'boro as a matter of fact. So it would be right on your way if you come west on I40 and then get onto 321. Just take the L-R blvd exit, and turn right and it's a few hundred yards on the right. Easy to find, and closer to Boone than Greensboro too I think.

As far as NGK's go, I know they do well in a M20, but I haven't heard anything about them in the 4 cyl's. I know Bosch Supers wr9ds do well in them though.

soo does the 2nd spark plug sound like the cause of this new "rev limimt"? seriously there was A LOT of oil in the hole...like someone poured it in or something.
