BMW Parts Warranty - Interesting Fact

I was picking up a set of front hubs from my friendly dealer and he told me that the warranty is 2 years unlimited mileage which is great...but he also said it covered parts AND labor. I asked a few questions and the bottom line is that you can buy parts over the counter and install them yourself and if there is a problem you bring the car to them. If they determine the part is defective they will replace it at their expense including labor.

Apparently this is BMW NA policy and is subject to the usual requirements for proof of purchase, not accident or abuse related etc etc.

This definitely adds value to buying genuine parts.

But they could also just tell you it's "installer error" or some BS, not cover it, and bill you for $300 in inspection costs. ;)

Actually you would be surprised at what we do cover..... But as I do own a BMW the warrantee is nice.

Buys part..... Waits a while..... Says it failed...... Gets installed for free haha

I'm just passing on what my parts guy, who I know quite well, shared with me along with some examples. Every mfg will say no to a warranty claim if they can find a reason and I'm sure not suggesting they are Mother Theresa.

I've known about this for a long time and have exercised the warranty option a couple of times. In each case it was a bono fide failure of a new part. The dealer agreed and replaced the part at no cost to me.

That and the quality are the reasons that I prefer to get most of my parts from my dealer. With a BMW CCA discount, many of the parts are competitive with on-line sources for the OE/OEM parts after shipping is factored in.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Did they just give you the replacement part or did they install it at no charge even if you did the original install yourself ?

Thats what Im told they will do.
