    Need a new Fuel Tank

I originally was going to get the Spectra Premium BM1B Ni Terne Tank for 227 but I found this eBay one for only 183. What are your opinions?

My dad and I replaced the tank in the '89iX and '90iX with the one from rockauto. The mounting points were fairly close but not exact so we couldnt use the rubber grommets. I'm not sure if this one is the same as the rockauto one but it looks the same. Just make sure you clean the outside with a real good degreaser and paint it with rustoleum and then coat the sides and bottom with that rubber undercoating. The one from rockauto only came with one hardline (the one welded to the tank) so we replaced the other hardlines with rubber fuel line so we didnt have any rust issues again.

I bought a spectra one from the link below a couple weeks ago, think it was 225 shipped and was at my door in 3-4 days. Fitment was good, but test fit all of your hoses. The big evap hose outlet was a little bit too big, which was a PITA to find out once you have the tank back in the car.

Excellent thread. My tank seems to have a small leak and I thought that I would need to drop $700 on an OEM one.

The spectra tank looks good. What all seals and hardware do you need to buy to make it work? Rather than undercoat spray, would powder coating be a good option?

i would say powder coating is too damn thin. Powder coating is more of aesthetics to make shit look pretty.

Maybe we are thinking of different things? Powder coating is one of the toughest protective coatings that you can put onto a part. NOTHING that comes out of a spray-can is as durable. Now, I can see adding some truck bed liner over the top of the powder coat to give it some extra protection and make it look OEM.

the spectra one fits real good only thing it does not have the little drain on the passenger side like the oem one and it comes with a new seal for the fuel pump

Can you take a picture of the 63L tank when you receive it? Hard lines, top side and bottom side? I am looking at replacing my leaky 55L one with a 63L one from the later model M20 cars (and incidentally the M42 convertible E30). It looks like the fuel lines are in different places. What's the deal with the bottom connecting pipe? The 55L tank has the pipe connecting the sides, but it looks like the 63L tank does not. Those don't use two separate pumps, so how does fuel get from one side to the other?

Yes I will and report how it fit and what it needed also how it works out for me.
