    early 318 vs. 318is? pro / cons

If you were building a project auto-x/fun car would it be the lighter car with rear drum brakes or the up-to-date car with 250-300 more lbs and rear disks? Late model already has plastic bumpers, and both have bad headlights.

    Just curious on people's input/opinions...

Why does a 318is weigh more than an earlier 318i? I know some of it's because of rear disc brakes, abs, heavier engine and some more sound deadening. But that doesnt seem to come up to 250-300 lbs. So why the big difference? Do all 318is have sunroofs? Que pasa?

Sunroofs were a popular optional in the 318iS.

I imagine the dealers liked it that way. Kind of like how the lots are full of automatics these days - the dealers can sell them much easier than manuals.

                      Makes sense.

I'm still considering an M42 swap in my m10.

why bother with a swap though, when you can buy a car that already has the better brakes, motor, and LSD out of the box? it's not like the 318is is a heavy pig or something.

                          true.

the best combo is a euro 323... m20, brakes, light, lsd.

If you could get a low mileage 318is that needs a little cosmetic work for cheap, I'd say that is the one to choose.
