I only put Chevron 87 in my car. Even Shell has up to 10% ethanol in it. Anything with ethanol seems to make the car run a little rougher/get worse mpg.

Why the hell are you guys calling it petrol? Are you from the UK? Do you open your "boot" to put in your groceries and borrow your friend's "lorry" when you need to haul an engine?

Petrol is used everywhere else in the world...even in Canada. It is the correct terminology (petrol = petroleum). "gas" is actually liquid, remember? We have many things right in this country, but we can do better (inches, ounces, lbs, etc...)

Gas is short for gasoline. Since we're talking about language, the majority of native English speakers speak... American English.

Concerning the premium debate: you're an idiot if you put in premium in your car if it only requires 87. I even have gladly put 87 into cars requiring premium if I'm just cruising down the highway(if they have a knock sensor). In the case of my E34 with a chipped M30, I can hear pinging if I am using anything besides premium. In my experience, most knock happens at lower rpms when the motor is producing max torque and not power. The idea that it helps for "high rpm spirits" makes it, imo, pretty clear indecline isn't well versed in this area.

Sorry, but my wife is Canadian. I've never heard a Canadian call it petrol.

Ethanol has fewer joules of energy than petrol. However it has a higher pressure threshold for combusting (octane rating).

                Because:

                  Many Canadian are Americanized.
