haha, I did the same thing to my G20. I did feel a differene...... in cold weather, a big difference in acceleration on the highway. But when it got warmer--no difference really. But it sounded badass. But then I paid to get a new airbox from another owner when I was selling it.
Hmmm......One of my friends are parting their 325i and had their airbox lying around. (AFM too if anyone needs one, he'll sell it) But I could buy that airbox off him and cut it and still have a spare. :DComment

that's the whole idea. it has more surface area, which means it can flow more and it filters better at the same time.Originally posted by randomtask37have u ever seen the stock filter!

Did that make the sound that you would get with this mod?Originally posted by rs4pro3The guys over at E30zone.co.uk have already done this mod 8) But instead of cutting off the bottom of the box they drilled multiple 2 inch holes in the bottom of the box.
I can't find it right now but will soon.- Sean HayesComment

for real?Originally posted by Robthats similar to the motorsports airboxes available from porsche, they're OEM boxes with wholes in them for more noise
From the UK guys:
I'm tempted to try this myself. I've contacted a buddy with a spare box and seeing if I can have it.Comment

it seems to me, if you take his cutting idea and make a good custom heat sheild, you would make that whole space under and infront of the airbox, your airbox. just making a big free flowing air box, with a good heat sheild, (ie not tin foil) you should see the most gains from that.
my thinking is that it will be like cai, combined with the proven stock airfilter
but here in socal, it might get mighty dustyComment
