I had the exact same problem, it ended up being shot inner pinion bearings.

Thanks for the info. I'm definitely going with bad diff as the root cause. Did you buy a new diff or pay for a rebuild?

The rebuild for the race car wasn't cheap (came out to about a grand iirc) but it's all new now.

Just mentioning this because I don't think it has been yet, but fuel pump?

            In tank or external.

This is a time where it would be worth it to pay for an hour of shop diag.

Best way to diag this is to put it on a lift with someone In the drivers seat, then run the car up to 70-80 mph and walk around underneath with a stethoscope until you find the culprit.

You could do it on jack stands, but I wouldn't be crawling underneath it.

That said, this sounds like a differential issue to me.

That would not be speed dependent.

Mine also makes this same exact noise, I'm pretty certain it's the pinion bearings. Which is a bummer because it's supposedly a rebuilt unit with an extra clutch.

Fwiw, my car was making a very similar noise. Swapped the diff and it's whisper quiet now.
