    Central locking, except trunk?

I've had a few convertibles but never an E30. My general habit is to put any valuables in the trunk and leave the doors unlocked. I've read up on the (apparently) fully functional central locking on my new-to-me 1990 325iC. I have not found a way to lock the trunk but not lock the doors, or unlock the doors without unlocking the trunk. I don't have a keyfob. Is the central locking system able to do this but I haven't figured it out yet? If not, can I modify the microswitch in the trunk so the trunk operates independently?

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Not unless you unplug the trunk actuator. That would make it independent.

I think I would be OK with that. It sounds easily reversible and better than clipping wires or removing stuff. Would it be best to unplug the electrical connector side or the physical pin that connects the plunger to the lock?

        Unplug the connector...it's easily accessible.

Doesn't the trunk lock have a valet position that allows you to lock it independent of the doors ?

I thought so too. I know I've double locked the trunk before and it takes me 5 minutes of finagling before I get everything properly set again to use my keyless entry.

            My e36 too.

Don't you just lock it in the other direction?

              Yes.
When the trunk keyhole/slit is in the vertical direction, the trunk is locked irrespective of the doors.
When the keyhole/slit is in the horizontal position, then the trunk lock functions exactly as the doors. i.e When doors are locked then the trunk is locked. When doors are unlocked then the trunk is unlocked.

You're right it does. It's been too long since I've used keys in the trunk.

Thanks for the help. I removed the plunger pin instead. The electrical connector was backed against some sheet metal. The solenoid won't get frozen in position this way too.

I tested the valet setting and it doesn't quite make it independent. It makes it so the trunk doesn't unlock with the doors, but if you lock the trunk it locks the doors. Minor difference, but it is a preference thing. Otherwise when I lock the laptop in the trunk with the top down (common), I've got to unlock the car door or do the reach-around inside the car to open the drivers door.

I'll run it this way for a month and see how much of a PITA it is. Thanks again.
